FTTB or 'Fibre to the Building' is used to connect apartment blocks, office buildings, shopping centres, and hotels etc, to the NBN access network.
To achieve this, NBN install a fibre optic cable directly into the building communications room, where a node is housed in a secure cabinet. From there they distribute internet services via the building's existing copper telephone lines using VDSL technology.
FTTB requires a connection to be made in the building's Main Distribution Frame (MDF). This is called A to B jumpering. Basically, a connection is made at the frame between your telephone/modem socket and NBN's DSLAM in the basement. You can then connect your VDSL modem.
Moving your NBN service within the same building requires re-patching at either the MDF, IDF, or both, depending on where th modem is being moved to.
eTechs can relocate your service for you and time the move to suit your requirements. We are ACMA licensed to carry out this work.
Our Technicians carry the same test instruments NBN technicians carry (VIAVI ONX-580). VDSL and copper cable specific test equipment. We always test your connection at the new location to ensure you're getting the correct speed.
