Adelaide - NBN FTTB Fault

FTTB
What is 'Fibre to the Building' or FTTB?

FTTB or 'Fibre to the Building' is used to connect apartment blocks, office buildings, shopping centres, and hotels etc, to the NBN access network.

To achieve this, NBN install a fibre optic cable directly into the building communications room, where a node is housed in a secure cabinet. From there they distribute internet services via the building's existing copper telephone lines using VDSL technology.

How Do You Connect To FTTB?

FTTB requires a connection to be made in the building's Main Distribution Frame (MDF). This is called A to B jumpering. Basically, a connection is made at the frame between your telephone/modem socket and NBN's DSLAM in the basement. You can can then connect your VDSL modem.

What If Your Modem Is Not Connecting?

In some cases NBN do not complete the A to B jumper connection at the MDF. In these cases you will need to engage a private technician to attend and complete the connection for you.

What If Your Modem Suddenly Stops Connecting?

In buildings with multiple tenancies, the usual reason for a sudden disconnect is most likely an accidental jumper disconnection by a technician working somewhere in the building.

You may be able to check with the building caretaker, who will generally know if someone was doing any work at the time of disconnect. If so, you should be able to contact that company and ask them to reconnect you at their expense. However, this is sometimes easier said that done.

FTTB Service Reconnection

If you are unable to find a reason for the disconnection, and having no luck with getting the service reinstated by NBN, eTechs technicians attend and get to the bottom of the issue. If the issue is not with NBN, but somewhere in the building, we can quickly get you up and running again.

If the issue is with the NBN service delivery, we can give you a report to pass on to your RSP for them to action.

With over two decades of experience in resolving internal customer cabling issues, cabling installations, and since its inception, ADSL installations and faults, eTechs will make sure you get the best connection available to you.

Our Technicians carry the same test instruments NBN technicians carry (VIAVI ONX-580). VDSL and copper cable specific test equipment. We can test your connection at the entry point and ensure you get the same speeds at your socket. There is no guess work.

Please call our office on 08 8463 1161 to arrange for a technician to attend, or alternatively, use our booking form.
